What we can help with

Our Kendal workshop specialises in:

• Trail and running shoe repairs
• Walking and hiking boot repairs
• Vibram resoling
• Approach shoe resoling
• Climbing shoe repairs
• Birkenstock repairs
• Dr. Martens and Solovair repairs
• Traditional shoe repairs

We are an Official Vibram Ambassador, a Certified Vibram Premium Cobbler and an authorised repairer for selected outdoor footwear brands.

Bringing footwear into the workshop

You do not normally need an appointment to bring footwear in.

Please bring both shoes where possible, even when only one appears damaged. This allows us to compare the pair and assess the balance, wear and overall condition properly.

It also helps if you can tell us:

• How the footwear is used
• The terrain or conditions you use it in
• What you would like the repair to improve
• Whether you have a preferred sole or colour
• Whether the footwear is needed for a particular date

Straightforward repairs can often be discussed at the counter. More technical footwear may need to be inspected in the workshop before we can confirm the best repair, price or sole option.

Repair turnaround

Our current estimated turnaround is approximately 2 to 3 weeks.

This is an estimate rather than a guaranteed completion date. More complex repairs, specialist materials and periods of high demand may occasionally take longer.

Please speak to us before leaving your footwear if it is needed for a race, holiday, event or other fixed date. We will always be honest about whether the deadline is achievable.

Collecting your repair

We will contact you when your footwear is ready for collection.

Please wait until you have received confirmation before travelling to the workshop, as repair times can vary between different types of footwear.

If you are unable to collect, we may be able to arrange tracked return postage for an additional charge.

Visiting from outside Kendal

Customers travel to us from across Cumbria and the wider Lake District, but you do not need to visit the workshop to use our services.

Our UK mail-order repair service allows you to book online, post your footwear to Kendal and have it returned using a tracked delivery service once the work is complete.

For advice before ordering, email support@soleandtrail.co.uk with clear photographs of both shoes, including the soles and any damaged areas.

Honest repair advice

Not every pair can or should be repaired.

We assess footwear based on its construction, materials and overall condition. Where we do not believe a repair would provide a safe, reliable or worthwhile result, we will explain why and discuss any suitable alternatives.

Our aim is to provide repairs that are made to be worn and used, while maintaining the intended weight, profile, flexibility and character of the footwear wherever possible.
